Towergate Insurance have created the following list, which will provide you with key pointers on getting started when it comes to securing your site is safe.
Tree surveying. As a site owner, it is your legal responsibility to ensure that the trees on your property do not pose a danger to life. Last year, Newcastle City Council was fined £280,000 after a six-year-old girl died at school after a tree fell on her.[1]
Fire risk assessment. Your site’s fire risk assessment is only as effective as it is accurate. Have there been any changes to your land that would mean your fire risk assessment needs updating?
Trip hazards. Winter is the perfect time to assess and treat your land for trip hazards, as autumn’s culling of the leaves permits greater visibility.
HSE guidelines. You may have been compliant with HSE guidelines at one point, but that doesn’t mean you are today. Consider re-familiarising yourself with the rules so you don’t get tripped up.
Unsure whether your site’s compliant? For information about insurance or risk management services contact Towergate today at CommercialTradingChelt@towergate.co.uk or 034 892 1490.
