The Chris Tyler interview

Interview with Chris Tyler, Business Development Manager, Morso

We chat with Chris Tyler, Business Development Manager for Morso, to discuss the park industry, his role in it, and what he likes to do when not working.

Hi Chris, Morso did really well last year, well done. Why did Morso come into the park industry?

Over the years, we have received enquiries from people wanting a Morso wood burner for their new park home or lodge, along with enquiries about retro fitting. With our long history in the narrow boat industry, which is another niche market, helping those in the park industry was a natural fit.

Morso has a wide range of stoves coupled with a flue system specifically designed for park homes and holiday homes. Over the past couple of years, Morso has worked with the NCC and are now the only NCC Verified’ suppliers of wood burning stoves.

What is your favourite thing to do at Morso?

The shows are always stressful, but I do enjoy them. It’s good to meet new people in the industry – whether they are manufacturers, park owners or homeowners, it’s always interesting.
I have personally owned a Morso stove, long before I worked for Morso. It’s easy to talk about something you feel passionate about.

How has Morso coped during the last turbulent 24 months?

It’s been difficult, especially coping with the demand. However, we’ve kept it simple and continued to build strong partnerships within the industry and tried to help where we can.

How did the relationships with the manufacturers come about?

It has certainly been the shows. The first show we attended was Stoneleigh in 2018 and everyone was so helpful offering us advice -especially the manufacturers. Richard Sigsworth has helped us all the way along, Bruce who was at Pathfinder, Silvano and latterly it’s been great working with Chris at Kingston.

Dare I say it having met Sell My Group at The Lawns, they have been vital in assisting us to navigate what is to Morso a new market.

What do you love about your job?

The variety, You, are always meeting new people and visit some great places. I think I would find it difficult to be in an office 09:00 – 17:00.

If you weren’t doing what you are doing, what would you do?

Cooking has long been a passion of mine. Working for Morso, I have had the opportunity to demonstrate how to cook on our wood fired ovens. I have really enjoyed cooking on the Forno at shows, so if I wasn’t in this industry, I would love to own my own restaurant.

Who would you most like to supply a wood burner too?

Lewis Hamilton! Actually, this would be for my son, he is a big fan so I would get some serious brownie points.

Which clients would you love to help?

We have worked hard with the manufacturers over the past few years to deliver wood burning stoves as an option. The next part of our strategy is to target the end user for retro fitting. With the increasing costs of heating, a wood burner is great option.

Tell me about future plans for Morso?

The current energy crisis demonstrates that there is a place for wood burners as a part of the solution certainly in the medium term. Especially in the Park Home Industry where there is a heavy reliance on bottled gas. Disappointingly there is a lot of misreporting around wood burning and their impact on the environment.

We have seen the introduction of Eco-design 2022 to improve efficiencies and emissions. Through our close work with the Danish government Morso has been Eco-design 2022 ready since 1996 and indeed many of our products far exceed this new set of standards. Schiedel UK our trusted chimney systems partner has even developed filters that can further reduce these particle emissions by up to 95%.

Morso as a company has long been a market leader in this and will continue to strive to do so, educating on the correct use of a wood burner.

Offering services from design all the way through to installation and maintenance. We make it as simple and safe as possible enabling people to purchase and enjoy our products with confidence.
